Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana – Pinault Collection presents “Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable” from April 9th to December 3th 2017. This is the first major exhibition devoted to the artist Damien Hirst in Italy after the retrospective “The Agony and the Ecstasy” held in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples in 2004. The exhibition, curated by Elena Geuna, extends along the 5,000 square meters of Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana, the two seats of the Venetian Pinault Collection that for the first time are both assigned to a single artist. The project is complex, ambitious and unique in its size. The exhibition tells the story of the sinking ship “Unbelievable” showing his impressive collection belonged to the freedman Aulus Calidius Amotan, destined to a legendary temple dedicated to the Sun God in the East. The Damien Hirst exhibition is enrolled in the large monographic cycle dedicated to the great artists where the works dialogue in a game of mirrors between the two exhibition spaces.
