|Gucci presents The Wonder of Matter. The Theatre of Leo De Berardinis and Perla Peragallo [1967/1979] Curated by Gianni Manzella and Enrico Pitozzi.
The project follows the celebration of the two artists Leo de Berardinis and Perla Peragallo, Alessandro Michele‘s central reference for the Gucci Spring Summer 2019 fashion show.
The exhibition takes shape from simultaneous reconstructions and suggestions capable of celebrating the visionary duality and irreproducible spectacular talent, provocations and transgressions of the two masters. The exhibition proceeds through film clips, sounds, music, photographs and props that tell the most powerful and significant years of their artistic, human and sentimental union. It is the celebration of a creative, ethical and political positioning: in revolt against the establishment of Italian permanent theatres. The two artists were the pioneers of a spectacle that transcends the text and interpretation, to become impromptu writing, self-expression, mimesis and interaction with the territory and ordinary people.
|The space between the experiences of the sixties defined by the two ‘theater as an error’.
The 1960s were rich in artistic and political commitment, in which Leo and Perla moved to a town in the Neapolitan hinterland to get in touch with the roots of theatre and popular language, transforming their practice into ‘diagnostics’.
“There are two types of art, one diagnostic, the other curative… our theatre is diagnostic, it makes the diagnoses, it tries to show where the rot is… the evil not understood in the sense of sin, the evil at a historical level…”. – Leo de Berardinis
