Dressing for the day, of officiating a liturgy made of colors and density, a research of harmony in the dissonance that reaches its climax in the absolute black. Valentino Autumn Winter 2018 Haute Couture Collection simplifies forms, reaching a hieratic simplicity. They add up and overlap, following a new idea of dressing. Immediate, but thought after, it reveals its identity with each layer. The research for the sacred, intended as something that oversteps reality, pervades the whole collection. The seven capital vices – pride, envy, greed, wrath, gluttony, sloth and lust – are condensed in objects that are both symbolic and of use: minaudière bags created in collaboration with artist Harumi Klossowska de Rola. In each vice, an animal has been identified, in a composite and multicultural iconography that renews the connection between man and nature conveying a positive message. The vices are, as a matter of fact, instinctive risks in human nature. Representing them through animals transfigures its value, bestowing them their opposite worth.
