“ONE NIGHT, I SNEAKED OUT OF MY HOUSE TO USE A PAYPHONE TO CALL THE PUBLISHER OF MY FAVORITE FASHION MAGAZINE.[…] THEY WOULDN’T TAKE ME RIGHT AWAY, BUT […] AFTER A YEAR FROM THAT NIGHT, I WAS WORKING FOR THAT MAGAZINE.”

YY Hi Tao, thank you for your time. I know your schedule is unpredictable because of a movie you are currently filming. I would like to start asking you about your beginnings and how was the transition from modeling…
TO In 2012, my Japanese modelling agent called me and said, “You need to audition for an X-Men movie in a few days.”
I had never had any interests in acting so at first I said “No,” but because I was a fan of Hugh Jackman who was the star of the movie, I decided to try. After three auditions, I got the part and played the love interest of Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine (2013). The transition was very smooth as I didn’t even noticed it. It happened very organically and I’m very grateful for that as I never even studied acting before.
