Shy LoveEn route to Punta del Este

Sometimes beauty unveils herself quietly. And so it was that I discovered her. Punta Del Este, Uruguay; A peninsula. Once it was known as Cabo Santa Maria, a quiet fisherman’s village, a narrow stretch of land dividing the South Atlantic and the waters of Rio de la Plata (River of Silver). A land of handsome people, kind, proud and confident.
It’s  lush vegetation burrowed between arid and rocky hillsides.  The rugged slopes seemed to spill into the ocean of a deep and rich blue. The winds blew as if to reassure you of their presence and their strength. More than one hundred years ago, acres of this rocky terrain and sand dunes were filled with forestry. Plantings of sea pines, Eucalyptus and acacia shielded the constant winds and called the birds to come and inhabit the lands.

Here, in this serene beauty, she returned to me. My love. A girl with eyes like the sea, one green and one blue. It might have gone unnoticed at first but in time you were drawn in. For years, her love was constant not unlike the Atlantic winds. But somehow in her subtlety she escaped me.
I didn’t see it and I let it pass me by. Until now, she is here at every turn in the road, on the path to the sea, in the hush of the cool zephyr. Looking up into the pines I see all that she has ever been and how she has always loved me. With her smile, with the sun in her hair, the calm in her voice, her subtle gestures of desire, with her breathing while resting her head against mine, she loved me.

“I WILL TELL YOU THE DREAMS OF MY LIFE
ON THIS DEEPEST OF BLUE NIGHTS.
IN YOUR HANDS MY NAKED SOUL WILL TREMBLE,
ON YOUR SHOULDERS MY CROSS WILL REST…”
