Louis Vuitton has a history built on the joy of discovery, feeding dreams of escape and far away destinations. The 2020 Cruise Collection exalts such imaginary of coming and going, leaving behind a bit of oneself to come back enriched. In fact, what better location to display the collection than the architectural treasure that the Finnish architect Eero Saarinen has conceived: where dreams of elsewhere become a tangible reality.
The journey begins with a conversation between two cities: Paris and New York. There’s America’s fascination with French couture and in counterpoint there’s the foreigner’s fantasy for the Empire City, transposed into precious embroideries and dazzling brocade. The acid colours resemble the blinding lights rising from NYC’s Downton to Uptown and the Wall Street uniforms are declined in a poetic transgression. Nevertheless stealing the spotlight are the iconic bags, a trademark of the LVMH brand, this time serving as prototypes of the accessories of the future.
