|Shanghai K11 Art Mall unveiled the groundbreaking Vivienne Westwood show entitled GET A LIFE!: the exhibition will present Westwood’s cutting-edge fashion collections and campaigns, and importantly highlights her work as an activist and environmental campaigner. The title of the exhibition GET A LIFE!, is Vivienne’s message to “Get a life for yourself and for future generations”- to engage with the world, through art and culture and to inform yourself on matters relating to climate change. It criticises a series of problems related to over-consumption and the global financial system – in connection to the environment and importantly climate change. The exhibition, co-curated by K11 art museum, Westwood and her team, illustrates Westwood’s environmental and cultural campaigns through; paintings, hand-drawn graphics, photos, videos, artworks and quotes.
With the Vivienne Westwood GET A LIFE exhibition, cultural entrepreneur Adrian Cheng – founder of K11 and K11 Art Foundation, hopes to inspire cultural exchange and creative exploration, epitomising the spirit of his own vision and philosophy: The Artisanal Movement and its mantra We Create, We Are Artisans. The Artisanal Movement is rooted in celebrating the original and sustainable and sharing the power of creativity to wider audiences. The impressive installations and visual effects will immerse the audience into Westwood’s world of activism; standing under Vivienne’s hand-drawn Gaia – the Tree of Life illustration, reading Vivienne’s explanation of her +5° Map and viewing the 60 portraits of celebrities who took part in Westwood’s Save the Arctic campaign for Greenpeace, photographed by Andy Gotts MBE.
|Key looks from Westwood’s latest fashion collections will also be on display, demonstrating how her political and environmental campaigns translate directly to her runway shows. “Stand before the Climate Revolution banner, take your “weapon” and fight for the world!” As Westwood explains – “It’s a war for the very existence of the human race and that of the planet. The most important weapon we have is public opinion: go to art galleries, start to understand the world you live in. You’re a freedom fighter as soon as you start doing that.” In response to the theme, and furthering K11 Art Foundation’s commitment to incubating emerging talent in Greater China, the sixth theme will feature artwork of several Chinese artists. Besides the exhibition, performance and installation, K11, echoing GET A LIFE, will also hold DUO THERAPY an eco-friendly fashion design competition, seminars, workshops, and kids’ tourist training camps. Audiences can use different interactive methods to engage with art, fashion and environmental protection. The exhibition will be open to the public from December 20, 2016 to February 28, 2017.
