CHANGE OF SPACE

Rick Owens + Moncler

2023.11.30

Rick Owens + Moncler present the creation of a Sleep Pod, a soundproof steel capsule ready to accommodate two people. In its regenerative and relaxing function, the unprecedented architecture houses fascinating and conceptual garments characterized by maximum leisure comfort.

Rick Owens reinterprets Moncler following a bold, modern and innovative vision in line with the present time. The garments of this collaboration breathe the air of a particular suggestion, the one that fuses two entities so different and yet so compatible. Perhaps this is the courage of the Moncler + Rick Owens creative dialogue, to be able to each translate their own vision without betraying it, triggering a short circuit between two strong identities, characterized by the different approach of designing fashion. The result is a wardrobe of garments where one immediately recognizes Rick Owens’ hand: sleeveless tunics and elongated sleeves, exceptionally reinterpreted with Moncler down. The garments are meticulously designed to fit the environment in which they are placed. For his collaboration with Moncler, Rick Owens created a soundproof steel sleep pod for two people where a ventilation system inside allows the temperature and oxygen concentration to be controlled. This technological architecture has a regenerative function perfect for those who want to spend a moment of serenity in isolation from reality. The environment is equipped with internal audio, lighting and video systems, a cooler and charging container for mobile devices.

Moncler + Rick Owens presents a collection of the elongated, padded silhouettes with a sunburst pattern in a palette centered on black and dark colors, dyed denim, and organic cotton jersey. Garments include flight jackets, puffers, down jackets and extra-long coats, and brushed cotton tops, while denim is cut to create tunics, dresses and skirts. Ring scarves, shaggy boots, and a quilted blanket enhance a look designed to be experienced both inside and outside the sleep pod. Rick Owens’ conceptual design becomes a balance between functionality and exuberant madness in this collection; to do so, he returned to the essentials and roots of Moncler’s DNA, choosing the down jacket as the collection’s pivotal element, and to his brand’s origins, focusing on leisurewear and maximum comfort.
