A French American Photography Commission, is a program launched by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès in alliance with Aperture Foundation Gallery in New York, and Eden is an eponymous long-term project realized by French artist Sylvain Couzinet-Jacques that purchased a small, historical building in Eden, North Carolina, as a site for an immersive understanding of the ideas of property, community, and image-making. In this work on view until January 19th 2017, Sylvain explores the often contradictory themes of utopia and home, representation and reality, and the work of art as a means of re-enchantment. The resultant output is eclectic, and incorporate Polaroids, video, traditional photographic film, found objects, historical documents, and sculptural elements.
