Re-appropiationMaison Margiela Artisanal AW18

Tailoring is informed through couture engineering,
to create new aesthetic codes

For the autumn/winter 2017 Artisanal collection, creative director John Galliano reflects on the universal language of glamour and re-appropriates it for the future of Maison Margiela. A future that is born in the techniques of artisanal tradition and captures technological innovation. Tailoring is informed through couture engineering, employing technical skill and fabric research to create new aesthetic codes for the Maison. New interpretations appear in the primitive or naïve: plissé organza can resemble rippled cardboard, a traditional skiing jumper may read futureglyphic, and linoleum print blocks materialise in decortiqué. ‘While established symbols remain intact, inspiration for a new glamour is filtered through the eyes of the beholder. Glamour requires an audience.’ Maison Margiela.
